Making the Mystery Mallet with Roy Underhill
The mystery mallet has been puzzling woodworkers for over one hundred years. The good news is that, because of the dovetails, the head can never come off. The bad news is that, because of the dovetails, it can never go on! The head can never fly off the handle, leading some to say it was invented by Abraham Lincoln (citing his famous quotation "with mallets towards none"). The secret has been cracked, and now you can make one too. The mystery mallet requires precise layout and cutting, and should be undertaken only by the intermediate woodworker or the over-confident and cocky novice.
