Your Instructors - Winter 2010

Roy Underhill - A former master craftsman at Colonial Williamsburg, Roy has been teaching traditional hand-tool woodworking for 35 years. Through his books, his televison programs, his live presentations and now the Woodwright's School, he has.... (oh what the hell. All anybody really wants to know is "is this guy as clumsy as he appears on tv?" Well, I've got 24 minutes and 27 seconds to get through the live single take shoot of the show with the director yelling "cut!" and I think he means, you know, for entertainment purposes.

And, yes, I had to get out of Colonial Williamsburg -  the constant @%$#&* fife & drum music did finally get to me! And yes, I know most folks spend their spare time skiing in the money bin and stacking their nobel prizes in the back yard, but no, my big fun is cutting up log jams on Cane Creek and trying to figure out how to insulate another old farm house. When people say tha....) and a member of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers and the Early American Industries Association.

Bill Anderson - My first memory of working in the shop was when my brother and I were in diapers and Pop set us down in the corner to sort nails and keep us out of his hair.  Since then I have developed a passion for all things related to handplanes and handtool woodworking.  I teach woodworking skills and planemaking in my shop and have taught numerous times at the John C. Campbell Folk School.  My furniture making interests tend towards American Period Furniture styles, particularly Queen Anne.  I am a member of Early American Industries Association, Mid West Tool Collectors Association, and the Society of American Period Furniture Makers.  I love the teaching process and am committed to an atmosphere of sharing information, camaraderie and laughter in the classes I teach.
